FDNY Ten House Firefighters Support H.E.A.R.T. 9/11 Hurricane Katrina Relief Project:

From December 2, 2007 thru December 8, 2007, H.E.A.R.T. 9/11 sent out volunteers and donors for their maiden mission. A team of fifty volunteers facilitated the interior reconstruction of homes of the elderly, people with disabilities, and families with young children. These dwellings were located in St. Bernard’s Parish, LA. It is a heavily damaged area that has not received the same attention as their big city neighbor, New Orleans.

The prime mission of H.E.A.R.T. 9/11 is to deliver, on a volunteer basis, relief help anywhere in the world where a disaster response is required. This deployment, although not immediate, still meets that criteria.

Our team of volunteers replaced dry wall and flooring and cleaned the yards of those proud displaced residents who wished to return to their homes and neighbors, but are not capable of such labor. H.E.A.R.T. 9/11, through its sponsors, provided transportation, lodging, meals, work projects, tools, materials and uniform shirts.

Among the many volunteers were four of our Ten House members:  FF Kenny Ruane, FF Jimmy Sands, and FF Casey Clemente of Engine 10; and FF Vinny Fennimore of Ladder 10.
